This one-day academic conference presents the latest research from the field of arms and armour. The event offers an opportunity, particularly for museums professionals, postgraduates, early career researchers, and independent scholars, to meet, share ideas, and network.To book a ticket or to find out more, go to https://royalarmouries.org/event/weapons-in-society/.

Tickets include lunch and refreshments, with an optional self-funded conference meal after the event. The day will also include a handling session of objects from the national collection of arms and armour relevant to the themes of the event. In addition, participants are encouraged to showcase their own research by entering the event’s poster competition.

The themes of accepted papers include trench art, Elizabethan swordsmanship, the Era of Assassination (1848-1914), and displaying the visible evidence of violence in museums. Dr Sue Brunning (Curator, European Early Medieval Collections, British Museum), will deliver the keynote address, ‘“Comforter in Battle”: Experiencing War-gear in Early Medieval England.’

Tickets are £15, with a concessionary rate of £6 available for those enrolled on postgraduate research programme of study and early career researchers (within five years of doctoral award, not counting career breaks).
