This joint RCGP and Addiction Professionals Managing Addictions in Primary Care Conference is one you won’t want to miss

We are really excited to welcome you back to 30 Euston Square for this event where we can make the best of workshops, interaction, networking and learning from each other. While we are happy we can offer the hybrid option of live streaming, we encourage you to attend in person to inspire each other and share best care in General Practice as we have done in previous years. With the injection of government funding at long last, now is an exciting time for those working in the sector of alcohol and other drugs…and a good time to get skilled up and up to date with the latest in the field. High death rates amongst those struggling with alcohol and other drugs mean there is no room for complacency.

This conference is the largest event in the UK for GPs, shared care workers, nurses and other primary care staff, specialists, commissioners and researchers interested in and involved with the management of people with drug and alcohol problems in Primary Care. As usual we will be covering the important issues for the field including measures to reduce drug and alcohol related deaths, manage behavioural addictions such as gambling harms and vaping, discuss psychosocial intervention, look at what the latest addiction research tells us, and much more.

One of the things that has excites us most is that each year almost half of delegates attend the event for the first time. Whilst we are always delighted to see friendly familiar faces from many of the last 27 conferences, it is inspiring to see some younger GPs value the importance of learning about alcohol and other drug problems (along with other behavioural addictions) because they affect so many of the people we see in Primary Care.

Learning objectives:

  • Increase understanding of current interventions for the prevention, assessment and treatment of alcohol and other drug problems
  • Increase understanding of what interventions are possible to deliver in Primary Care and what require specialist help
  • Increase knowledge of drug and alcohol policies in the UK and how they are implemented in Primary Care
  • Increase knowledge of links between multiple needs, health inequalities and drug and alcohol use

Conference Chairs:

  • Dr Stephen Willott, GP, Clinical Lead for Alcohol & Drug Misuse, Public Health Dept, Nottingham City Council
  • Kate Halliday, Executive Director, Addiction Professionals

Please note, those who book online tickets will only be able to watch the plenary sessions and the plenary parallel sessions live as we are only streaming the auditorium on the conference days. We will be streaming via Zoom Webinars, this will mean cameras off but the chat and Q&A function will be enabled.
