Nurse Educators Conference in the Rockies on July 10-14, 2023 in Breckenridge, United States

Reaching New Heights Through Equity, Inclusion & Diversity

As nurse educators and professionals in the healthcare space, we’re expected to “carry out nursing responsibilities in a manner consistent with quality in nursing care and the ethical obligations of the profession.” (ANA Nursing Code of Ethics)

The most recent Future of Nursing report states that “by 2030, the nursing profession will look vastly different and will be caring for a changing America.” What does that look like in 2023 and beyond? It’s more important than ever that we turn our attention to Equity, Inclusivity and Diversity for our field and those we teach/serve - as it’s increasingly crucial for the health, well-being, recruitment, retention and overall success of our profession.

For the purposes of the 2023 Nurse Educators Conference in the Rockies, Equity, Inclusivity and Diversity refers to the exploration of genders and gender identities, races and ethnicities, religions, cultures, ages, sexual orientations, physical, functional and learning abilities, as well as diversity of background, experience, geographic location, socioeconomic status, educational level, social determinants of health and more. This year, our goal for the conference is to broaden our own frames of reference and prepare to better equip the next generation of healthcare workers!

Classroom and Clinical Teaching and Learning
Presentations should spark a conversation around how to ensure optimal classroom/clinical learning occurs; management strategies; well-being strategies; engaging, interactive teaching techniques; and promoting civil discourse. The presentation of useful, creative tools for classroom/clinical management is a critical part of this track. “How we teach, how students learn.”

Professional Development for Clinical Practice
Presentations should offer an opportunity to learn about how to promote ongoing professional development in a clinical environment. Presentations could address identifying future needs, inter professional education, developing a productive workforce, identifying, and examining the competencies and skill levels of employees at all levels, determining both proficiency and skill gap, or collaborations between clinical agencies and academia.

Course, Curriculum, and Program Evaluation
Presentations will discuss ideas on effective ways to assess learning outcomes: a systematic method for collecting, analyzing, and using information to answer questions about projects, policies and programs, particularly about their effectiveness and efficiency. Presentations could address accreditation, measuring success, using data to inform curricular and course changes, obtaining feedback from stakeholders, and assessment and evaluation at the individual/course/program level.

Faculty Development
Presentations should create opportunities for professional development in the areas of teaching, mentoring, coaching, publishing, scholarly work, research, and investing in our own well-being. Presentations could offer perspectives on learning opportunities such as academic degrees to formal coursework, conferences, and informal learning opportunities situated in academia or practice. Additionally, preparation for serving on community committees and boards is an important consideration.

Instructional Technology Strategies
Presentations will seek to leverage new learning resources to foster growth and engagement for students and faculty. Presentations could include a focus on educational technologies, simulation, virtual reality, online learning, and adapting our teaching environments in crisis and change.
