The Nehru Academy of Law International Maritime Conference 2025: “Our Ocean-our obligation-our opportunity” (NALIMC-2025) is in response to the United Nations call to implement the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development. The World Maritime Day is celebrated on 25th September 2025. The official theme for the World Maritime Day 2025 is “Our Ocean- Our Obligation- Our Opportunity”. This theme highlights the key role that oceans play in global trade, environmental stewardship, and economic opportunity, and our obligations to conserve and protect them. India has a long coastline of over 7,500 kilometres, giving it a great opportunity to use ocean resources for economic growth. The idea of the Blue Economy focuses on using these resources in a way that supports development, creates jobs, and protects the health of our oceans. the southern ports of India are strategically positioned along the busiest international trade routes. This highlights the urgent need for enhanced control over vessel movements along the Kerala coast, as well as improved preparedness to manage maritime casualties and respond to marine pollution. NALIMC-2025 will bring together judges, lawyers, global experts, policymakers, researchers, academicians, industry leaders, and students to address the pressing challenges and vast opportunities in ocean governance, maritime innovation, and sustainable shipping practices.
