Eötvös Loránd University, Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary and Pázmány Péter Catholic University are pleased to announce a conference on “Milestones in Canada” to be held in Budapest, Hungary, on November 26-27, 2026.

Canada’s history, culture, and identity have been shaped by pivotal moments that continue to influence its social, political, and economic landscape. From Confederation to contemporary debates on reconciliation, multiculturalism, and sustainability, these milestones offer rich opportunities for scholarly reflection. This conference seeks to explore how key events, policies, and cultural developments have defined Canada’s trajectory and how they resonate in today’s global context. By examining these turning points, we aim to foster interdisciplinary dialogue that deepens our understanding of Canada’s past, present, and future.

The Conference Organizing Committee invites papers that address, but are not limited to, the following themes:

How anniversaries and public history shape collective identity

The intended program will feature two keynote lectures, multiple thematic sessions and a teacher training event.

Presentations should be 20 minutes long. BA and MA students will have their separate sessions with the opportunity to deliver 10-minute papers. Following the presentations, each panel will feature a Q&A session.

Abstracts of papers (maximum 250 words) and a one-paragraph CV (maximum 100 words) for those planning to deliver papers should be submitted by e-mail to the organizers at [email protected] and [email protected] by February 15, 2026. Participants will be notified of the acceptance of their paper proposals by February 28, 2026.

Conference participation is free but delivering a paper is subject to the approval of one’s abstract. A selection of essays will be published in a volume devoted to the theme of the conference.
