Linguistic Association of Canada and the United States (LACUS) July 05, 2023 - Toledo, United States

The 2023 annual conference of the Linguistic Association of Canada and the United States, our 49th annual conference, will be held July 5-7, 2023, at The University of Toledo, in Toledo, Ohio, USA, and will be hosted by the Department of World Languages and Cultures.

Our plenary speaker this year will be Linda Rouillard of the University of Toledo. Papers by colleagues from around the world will be presented over the three days of the conference, and the dates of various other events will be announced soon.

The conference theme is Linguistic Journeys: Linguistics and Communication: Research and Teaching / Learning

All presentations will be available to both onsite and remote participants. All onsite presentations will also be Zoomed. All virtual (Zoomed) presentations will be available in the same rooms as the face-to-face one.

Abstracts. While abstracts presenting empirically grounded investigations in any theoretical framework into aspects of the conference theme are especially welcome, LACUS invites abstracts representing a broad range of approaches to language, including interdisciplinary topics and innovative ideas. The following list of topics is intended as suggestive rather than comprehensive or restrictive.

· Environmental linguistics

· Sociolinguistics

· Ethnolinguistics

· Context and meaning

· International communication

· Group interactions in different settings

  · Online communication

· Political discourse

· Discourse and social distancing

· Speaking and hearing under stress

· Anything else in general / historical linguistics

Abstracts must be submitted online. The abstract submission page, with guidelines, including a detailed schedule for abstract submissions, can be found here:
