The Energy Policy and Development Centre (KEPA) is an academic research institute within the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. In October 2018 it was appointed, out of 1300 universities and colleges members of the UNAI (at that time), as the UNAI hub for the 7th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)(1st three-year cohort). Today KEPA is UNAI SDG7 Hub Co-chair (3rd three-year cohort for the period 2025 -2027). Simultaneously, it is the coordinator of the “BSEC-Green Energy Network” and the “PROMITHEAS Network”. The activities of KEPA cover a wide range of topics, starting from energy geopolitics, regional energy markets, promotion of energy investments and trade, but during the last years they are oriented towards Climate Change (CC) and SDG7 Economy. Its current research activities are focused on “minimizing the negative impact of end user's behavioral obstacles in implementing energy policies, using a combination of multi-criteria methods and innovative tools”. Emphasis is also placed on knowledge transfer and capacity building for Energy Efficiency (EE), development of low carbon policy mixtures, incorporation of behavioral patterns in energy modelling and EE forward looking policies. As a UNAI SDG7 Hub Co-Chair, KEPA is the: Energy Poverty Initiative, Tree planting, Circular economy, expansion of LED use in public lighting, the Switch to less GHG emitting fuels (EE, RES, Natural Gas) in municipalities, introduction of electromobility in small-range ferry boats, development and introduction of artificial (AI) systems in forest fires, engagement of youth in SDG7 and CC innovative actions, engagement of Academia, Municipalities and market forces into International Cooperative Initiatives. As a UNAI SDG7 Hub Co-Chair, KEPA is seeking cooperation with other universities so as to form the UNAI SDG7 Energy Community that will be organized along the three axes of: teaching, research, and outreach activities. For this purpose, discussions during the Brokerage sessions will be organized accordingly depending on the expressed interest of participants.
