International Forum for Medical Students and Junior Doctors (SCHMS) May 13, 2022 - Athens, Greece

The Scientific Congress of Hellenic Medical Students (SCHMS) is an annual event, first introduced in 1994. Each year since, it is hosted by a different Chapter of the Scientific Society of Hellenic Medical Students (SSHMS).

It is the gemstone of SSHMS activities which provides the opportunity to thousands of students from Faculties of Medicine and Health Sciences to expand their knowledge and develop their skills in various fields of medicine. Participating students are able to present their scientific and research work either by oral presentations, e-posters or -even better- by getting involved in student round tables. They also get to cultivate valuable practical skills and soft skills, as well as broaden their scientific views, by taking part in a variety of interactive or hands-on workshops. Finally, the SCHMS is an excellent opportunity for socialising with fellow students, young doctors and inspiring professors.

SCHMS is among the timeless conferences of the country and one of the biggest student events. Through the years, it has been honoured by the presence of world-renowned scientists and inspiring young students, creating the matrix of future medical professionals.

International Forum of Hellenic Medical Students and Junior Doctors (IFHMS|JD)

The International Forum is one of the most essential and prestigious events of the SCHMS. Having English as the official language, it is the part of the Congress that addresses International professors of different specialties and medical students from abroad.

Throughout the three day event, the International Forum is hosted in the two grandest venues of the Congress hall. World-renowned professors, medical students and multidisciplinary student teams present their views on current scientific topics with global impact. International students are invited to actively participate by presenting their own scientific work or by taking part in innovative workshops. Most importantly, it is a one-of-a kind opportunity to meet, discuss and get inspired by faculty members and young doctors.

he Scientific Society of Hellenic Medical Students (S.S.H.M.S.) was founded in September 1993 and is a non-profit and non-governmental society with broad activities in the fields of medical education and volunteering. It consists of 7 Chapters in all of the 7 Greek Medical Schools (Athens, Alexandroupolis, Thessaloniki, Ioannina, Crete, Larissa, Patras) and lists more than 4.000 members. The aim of SSHMS is the involvement of medical students as well as students of related health sciences schools in scientific, educational and social matters, while its goal is the production of scientific and social work, with a clear focus on the selfless giving and volunteering. Meanwhile, S.S.H.M.S.’s activities also aim to strengthen the bonds between the students-members, through the reinforcement of team-work and cooperation. The work of S.S.H.M.S. has long exceeded the borders of the university institutions and it has entered partnerships with public and private institutions, as well as social organizations, paving the ground for development of initiatives by the young students and doctors.
