What is Bitcoin Halving and why does it matter?

In 2024, Bitcoin's block reward will be cut in half (from 12.5 to 6.25 bitcoin per block), meanwhile reducing the rate of new BTC creation, and the supply of available Bitcoins. This mechanism (permanently written into the Bitcoin code by its creator/-s) ensures a “balanced” supply dynamics in relation to the growing demand.
