Annual Scientific Conference of Physical Activity and Sports Tech for Healthy Lifestyles Shaping the Future of Sports & Health Monitoring Systems on October 16-19, 2025 in Podgorica, Montenegro

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

On behalf of the host, the Physical Activity and Sports Tech for Healthy Lifestyles, the i4EUFITMOS and USSI project team from Faculty for Sport and Physical Education at University of Montenegro and the Conference Organizing Committee, I would like to welcome you to the 4-day interdisciplinary PASTECHL scientific conference to be held in Podgorica, Montenegro, 16th – 19th October 2025. It is planned to be hosted by the Physical Activity and Sports Tech for Healthy Lifestyles, in cooperation with the i4EUFITMOS and USSI project team from Faculty for Sport and Physical Education, University of Montenegro and Western Balkan Sport Innovation Lab, as well as the patronage of the partners who share our vision.

We do believe that we will create an exciting program with “Shaping the Future of Sports & Health Monitoring Systems” as main theme. The program will consist of keynote speeches, workshops, parallel oral and poster sessions, but we will make sure there will be enough time to catch-up with familiar and unfamiliar colleagues, explore some collaboration options and create new academic networks, which is the main purpose of this kind of the industry oriented and scientific events.

We will make sure the topics will offer the target audience a forum for the latest research and both theoretical and applied insight into the field of sports, exercise and health, so this newly developed scientific conference, which had to be held in hybrid format, might bring together national and international physicians, scientists, therapists, trainers and many other interested parties from the fields of sports, exercise and health.

We hope to see you in Podgorica, October 16-19!

Prof. Dr. Stevo Popović, Conference President

Marko Markovic1,2, Janko Jankovic3 – 1University of Montenegro, Faculty for Sport and Physical Education, Niksic, Montenegro, 2Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts, Center of Young Scientists, Podgorica, Montenegro; 3Western Balkan Sport Innovation Lab, Podgorica, Montenegro

Some previous studies suggest social isolation is associated with poor cognitive health in later life, while cognitive outcomes may increase social inclusion of older people and cognitive health may be an important aspect of healthy ageing. PURPOSE: The goal of this study is to review available literature on research related to relationship of exercise for cognitive health and social inclusion of elderly. METHODS: Specific key words “exercise”, “cognitive”, “health”, “social”, “inclusion”, “elderly”, and “people” were used to search relevant electronic databases, such as PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus. The research was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines. RESULTS: Studies that fit the inclusion criteria such as containing the data with the publication time that was from 2008 and later, and describing various exercise related to improvement of cognitive health, were reviewed. Results have showed that beneficial effects of exercise on cognitive health of older people have been observed. The dose of exercise is mostly recommended to be on the level of an hour a day, and three times a week, while the most applicable are aerobic, strength training exercises and yoga, and its combination, all in order to increase cognitive health. CONCLUSION: The findings suggest that various exercise may benefit global-cognition, attention and cognitive control, as well as improve the social inclusion of older people.
